Dave Mansell was re-elected with 1,070 votes and a large majority in Wiveliscombe and District. Andy Pritchard won a seat with 671 votes in West Monkton and Cheddon Fitzpaine. Clive Martin, the party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, narrowly failed to win a seat in South Quantock, as did veteran campaigner Alan Debenham in Norton Fitzwarren and Staplegrove. There were also strong showings for Green Party candidates in the Dulverton and District and Watchet and Williton wards.
Winning Green Party candidate, Andy Pritchard, said: 'I am thrilled by the support and congratulations I have received from voters all over Somerset West and Taunton. There is clearly a real desire to see more Greens on the council. I thank my supporters and voters locally who have made this possible. I am proud and humbled to be representing one of the areas of Taunton where there are many young families. My priority is to look to decision making that leads to a better and more sustainable future.’
Returning Green Party councillor, Dave Mansell, said: ‘I am very pleased to be re-elected in Wiveliscombe and District. I will continue to do my best to represent the interests of our area, to work positively with others and to provide a Green voice on the new council. I thank my many supporters and voters for continuing to put their trust in me. About 64% of voters in our ward voted Green, which is a strong message that we need a local Council that looks after both people and our planet.’
